RIPS is the first system certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, EASA and Transport Canada for full-flight helicopter operations into known icing conditions. It extends operational capacity in mixed or unpredictable weather without risking safety, mission or equipment.
The system utilizes the external detection probes of the ice and snow detection system (ISDS).
RIPS continuously measures and eliminates the buildup of snow and ice on aircraft surfaces. The system continually self-tests and monitors, and when icing conditions are detected, it automatically delivers controlled deicing power to thermal blankets on helicopter rotors and sequences power between heating elements.
A rapid response time of less than 2 seconds provides helicopter pilots with advanced notice of weather conditions, even while hovering.
