Storage and Encryption
Recorders in aerospace applications typically store data on solid state drives. These generally fall into two categories, removable or internal, and have been manufactured to withstand harsher environmentals than would be encountered for consumer grade electronics. Removable memory devices are typically used in Quick Access recorders and Multi-role recorders which allow personnel to remove the storage device for data download at an analysis station and insert a new one. Data stored on recorders with internal storage can be accessed using proprietary or standard communications interfaces. Encryption of data is typical in sensitive operations where there is a security risk if data is intercepted. All of our encryption equipment is therefore designed in accordance with the latest Information Assurance (IA) guidelines available from CESG in the UK and NIST in the US.

Storage formats and media are optimized to meet these needs along with recorder size, capacity, logging speed and data acquisition considerations.
